Y11: Poetry revisions 1

Dear all,

You will start using this blogging site to post some of your homework tasks. If you are reading these instructions, well done!

All you have to do is write a comment in the comment space below the task.

Formulate 1 essay question following the model in class today (on another set of poems and a different focus) and respond to each other’s essay titles. So, write 1 essay title and respond to 2 students’ essay titles.

By responding, I mean giving feedback as to the validity of the essay titles. For example, "I think your essay title works well"; or, "Maybe you need a different focus as it doesn't really work for the poem....".

Remember! This is a public forum that everyone has access to. The purpose of this process is to share thoughts and views and offer positive feedback.

Thank you.
Mrs Gougeon

    1. Well Drew, I think that although 'Where I Come From' does approach the theme of identity, Continuum does less so, and perhaps an alternative to this would be appropriate such as 'Explore how the theme of identity is developed in either Where I Come From or A Different History. May I also add that the task be reworded to 'How is the theme of identity conveyed in…or...?', for I find the wording more direct.

    4. I think your essay title works well although I agree with your comments that perhaps the poems chosen did not match the theme of identity.

    5. I disagree with Drew the First, I think that both Continuum and Where I come from both explore the theme of identity quite well.

  2. Explore how the theme of religion is developed in either a different history or pied beauty.

    2. Question worked really well, religion was a very clear theme/topic included in both of those poems.

    1. I would perhaps suggest that you re-word the question, and look focus on the perception, or the perspective on, or of nature. For example "Explore how the theme of nature is perceived in either… or…"

    1. I am not sure as to whether 'developed' would be the right word to use, for the tone is consistent throughout both of the poems chosen. You could instead say "Explore how the tone is created in either…or…"

    1. I'm not sure if you're supposed to structure this task as a question, as such, bit more along the lines of telling the person what he or she is supposed to do by structuring it along the lines of ''Explore how....is developed in...." but then again I'm not sure if you can structure it as a question so it all depends.

    1. Good idea here but another poem may be consider as an option when giving a task(not sure if it is necessary though). This is a good poem to choose for the theme of time by the way.

    1. I would say personal reflection is a clear theme in the cockroach but less so in continuum perhaps use a different poem such as where I come from
